Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician

About the Role

MJI Energy is looking for a skilled Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician to join our growing team. In this role you'll install, program, commission, and maintain building automation systems for commercial properties across the New York Metro area. This is hands-on, technically demanding work at a modern BAS company built on 30+ years of real mechanical expertise — and one of the best opportunities in the region for a controls technician who wants to do more than just maintain legacy systems.

What You'll Do

• Install, configure, and commission BAS equipment including DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, and field devices
• Program and configure building automation systems using Niagara Framework / Tridium and Johnson Controls platforms
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with existing BAS, HVAC controls, and energy management systems at commercial client sites
• Integrate mechanical and electrical systems using BACnet, Modbus, and other industry-standard protocols
• Conduct system startup, commissioning, and functional performance testing
• Develop and maintain accurate as-built documentation, sequences of operations, and system schematics
• Provide on-site client training on BAS platform operation and monitoring dashboards
• Collaborate with project managers, mechanical teams, and fellow technicians on active installations

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of hands-on experience in building automation, DDC controls, or HVAC controls
• Working knowledge of Niagara Framework / Tridium or comparable BAS platforms
• Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, or other BAS communication protocols
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability to work independently and manage activity across multiple job sites
• Professional communication skills for direct client interaction

Nice to Have

Not required — but these will make you stand out.

• Johnson Controls platform experience (Metasys, FX series, or similar)
• Niagara N4 Certification
• Experience with energy management or demand-response systems
• Commercial HVAC mechanical background
